CMI researches along fisheries qualify for the reg'l RD symposium

All four researches presented on the third leg of the Commodity Research Reviews under Fisheries, today, October 21, 2021 via zoom meeting, are qualified for presentation in the upcoming Regional Symposium on R&D Highlights.

The paper on “Exploitation and Maturity of Yellow-belly Threadfin Bream Nemipterus bathybius” by Rosario Segundina P. Gaerlan, Francis Greg A. Buccat, Maureen L. Noces, Maricel B. De Vera, Jade Mariane Y. Yadao, Jocelyn G. Dasalla, Melchor A. Reyes Jr., Khasper R. Cuarteron, and Lito Klyer C. Galvez of Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) was selected for oral presentation in the upcoming symposium. The other researches were selected for poster presentation. These are “Growth and Yield of Tilapia Hybrids in Aquaponic System” by Faith S. Tadeo and Victoria N. Malaya of Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU); “Assessment of the Reproductive Biology, Ecology, and Biomass Production of Porphyra spp. in Northwestern Luzon” by Andres Y.Tungpalan, Rommel Q. Pascua, Rhea R. Espiritu, Rey C. Cajudoy, and Arvin Dela Pena of Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU); and “Process Documentation and Quality Evaluation of Oyster Shell Lime Production in Pangasinan” by Cornelia E. Ibarra and Dominica J. Sajonas of Pangasinan State University (PSU).

In her message during the opening program, Dr. Shirley C. Agrupis, MMSU President and Chair of the ILAARRDEC Regional Research and Development Coordinating Council (RRDCC) expressed hopes that BFAR, through the able leadership of Ms. Rosario Segundina Gaerlan, the Officer In-charge Bureau Director of Region 1, will trigger the statistics of the fisheries sector. She said, there is a need for each one to put their knowledge and expertise together and come up with a real collaborative partnership in the field of fisheries for Region 1. “If we all help each other, putting all what we have in terms of human capital, physical or infra-resources in the fisheries sector then I have no doubt that we will emerge number one in the fisheries sector,” Agrupis added.

The evaluators in the review were Prof. Ernesto S. Del Rosario Jr., from MMSU-College of Aquatic Sciences and Applied Technology (CASAT), Prof. Francis Albert T. Argente from PSU-Binmaley Campus, and Prof. Luis Tattao from DMMMSU-Mid La Union Campus.

The review was hosted by Bureau of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources Region I (BFAR-RI).
